Baer, Abel, composer; b. Baltimore, Md., March 16, 1893. ASCAP 1924. Educ.: Chelsea, Mass., High School. Left Coll. of Physicians and Surgeons, Boston, to become aviator in World War I. Second Lieut, in Infantry at close of war. Gave up study of den­tistry for music. A pianist from childhood. Succeeded an older brother as popular orchestra leader, when brother became lawyer. Left Boston 1920 to join professional staff of New York music publishing house. Song "All That I Need is You" (1921), featured by Paul Whiteman at Palais Royale. Whitcman later featured Baer's "Papa Loves Mama" in his "Experiment in Modern Music" Feb. 12, 1924, at Aeolian Hall, and later his "June Night" at a similar concert in Carnegie Hall, where Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue was first played.
